THE GUEST COUNTRY SLOT IS BACK WITH A LOOK AT THE NEW ARGENTINE CINEMA

The coronavirus pandemic robbed last year’s Seminci audiences of one of the festival’s staples, the retrospective dedicated to the guest country of each edition. This year’s guest country is Argentina, and more specifically Argentine cinema from the last couple of decades. Once again, Seminci showcases titles that are often excluded from the commercial circuit and provides a broad view of specific national cinemas.

«Wild stories, Extraordinary Tales», which is also the title of a book written by Álvaro Arroba and published by Seminci, condenses in sixteen feature films and seven short films what has come to be called the NCA (New Argentine Cinema by its Spanish initials). Names such as Adrián Caetano, Lucrecia Martel, Albertina Carri, Mariano Llinás, José Celestino Campusano, Israel Adrián Caetano, Martín Rejtman, Eloísa Solaas or Lucía Puenzo will surely be mentioned in the scheduled round table on «Argentine cinema between crises”.

Here is a tribute to one of the most powerful Spanish-language cinematographies which such a familiar presence in Valladolid as Juan José Campanella could not miss. The Silver Spike winner for Son of the Bride —and the recipient of this edition’s Honorary Award— will today share his experiences with the audience attending his master class.
