‘Regreso a Raqqa’ is the chronicle of what was possibly the most famous kidnapping case in history, that of 19 journalists and NGO officials of different nationalities who were captured by the Islamic State, as narrated by one of the victims: the Spanish reporter Marc Marginedas, the first captive to be freed. Six of the prisoners were beheaded in front of a camera. The images were broadcast around the world and became a tragic and highly effective communication strategy for ISIS.
Albert Solé is a journalist who has worked for many years as a television reporter before making his film debut with ‘Bucharest, Memory Lost’ (2008), which won the Goya for Best Documentary. That same year he founded Minimal Films, with which he has created numerous documentaries for film and television, such as ‘Al final de la escapada’ (2010, selected for Time of History at the 55th Valladolid Festival) and the documentary series for Netflix ‘Examen de conciencia’ (2019). Raúl Cuevas has a degree in Audiovisual Communication and a Master’s degree in Creation Documentary from Pompeu Fabra University. Since his debut in 2001, he has directed and written three feature films (‘Un lloc on caure mort’, ‘From Texas to Arbúcies’ and ‘Return to Raqqa’), six short films and several TV documentaries.
