Supervising sound editor and sound designer. Academy Award nominee for Best Sound Editing in 2014 for ‘Birdman’ and in 2015 for The Revenant by Alejandro G. Iñárritu. British Academy’s BAFTA winner for ‘The Revenant’ and BAFTA nominee for ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’, ‘Babel’ and ‘Birdman’.

Since 2020 Martín Hernández directs the Sound Post division at Cinematic Media. As part of the group headed by Epigmenio Ibarra’s Argos, he is developing series for Netflix and Amazon. Some of the projects under Martín Hernández’s supervision and sound design include Diego Luna’s ‘Pan y Circo’, ‘Dani Who?’ and ‘Hernan’ for Amazon; and ‘Yankee’, ‘The Club’ and ‘Dark Desire’ for Netflix.

In addition to the series, Martin supervised and designed the sound for John Patton Ford’s feature debut ‘Emily the Criminal’, starring Aubrey Plaza, and Josephine Decker’s ‘The Sky Is Everywhere’. Just a few weeks ago he concluded the design and sound supervision for the film ‘Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths’, the most recent work by Alejandro G. Iñárritu.

He started his career in the late 80s as radio host and producer at Mexico City’s WFM969 along with Alejandro G. Iñárritu, creating radio short stories and an ‘on air’ production style that became a landmark in that era. In 1998, Hernandez started sound design for film with Alejandro’s first feature ‘Amores perros’, adding numerous accolades, among them the Golden Globe nomination and the Academy’s nomination for Best Foreign Film. Since then, Martín has collaborated with directors such as Fernando Meirelles (‘City Of God’), Guillermo Del Toro (‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and ‘Hellboy

II’), Sean Penn (‘Into the Wild’), Walter Salles (‘On the Road’), Joe Swanberg (‘Digging for Fire’ and ‘Win It All’) or Josephine Decker (‘Thou Wast Mild and Lovely’ and ‘Madeline’s Madeline’).
