Kate trained at the Yale School of Drama and made her first stage appearance in in Jim Sheridan’s production of ‘The Hostage’ at the Irish Arts Centre, New York. Other theatre credits include ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’, ‘The Barbaric Comedies’, Drama at Inish’ (Abbey Theatre, Dublin), ‘The Blue Macushla’, ‘The Donohue Sisters’, ‘A Little Like Drowning’ (Druid Theatre Co,), ‘Summer & Smoke’ (Apollo Theatre, London), ‘Don Juan’ (Royal Exchange, Manchester), ‘Reflected Glory’ (Vaudeville Theatre, London), ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’ (National Tour, Ireland), or ‘Playboy of the Western World’ (National Tour, Ireland).

She was nominated for an Irish Times Theatre award for ‘Dead Funny’ (Rough Magic) and won Best Actress at the UK Regional Theatre Awards for ‘Three Tall Women’ (Lyric, Belfast), Best Actress winner at the Badalona Film Festival for playing Ruby in ‘Ruby’.

Among her film credits, mention must be made of John Huston’s ‘The Dead’, ‘Dancing at Lughnasa’, ‘Man on the Train’, ‘Eden’, ‘Laughter in the Dark’, and the shorts ‘Ruby’ and ‘VIVA’ . Her TV credits include: ‘Silent Witness’ (BBC), ‘Get Well Soon’ (BBC), ‘Maxine’ (Ch.5 , UK) , ‘Malice Aforethought’, ‘The Tudors’ (Showtime), ‘Titanic, Blood and Steel’, ‘No Tears’, ‘Foreign Exchange’ and Denis Potter’s ‘Karaoke’.

Since 2005 she has been a board member of the Galway Film Fleadh and in 2013 she joined the Irish Film Board (Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland). She is a regular presenter and panelist for public broadcasters RRTE and BBC and an occasional freelance writer for most of the Irish daily news publications.
