The Chinese New Year holidays are approaching and Yῡ Liang Yuan (21) travels from the industrial colony where he lives in Shenzhen to his hometown in Henan (in one of China’s inland regions). but this in no ordinary vacation. This year, his visit is critical for his future and that of his family. Yῡ Liang Yuan hopes to get engaged with a former classmate with whom he has been having a long-distance relationship for a year. Made in China is the brave portrait of a story of self-improvement and self-acceptance in a country where a generation without a voice struggles for the opportunity to be themselves. Yῡ Liang Yuan will be forced to confront the issue of who he is and what he really wants.
Born in Barcelona in 1993, he began his cinematographic studies at ESCAC, from where he graduated in 2016 after earning his degree in Film Direction. That same year he founded Limmat Films Ltd. and produced and directed Made in China (2019). That experience led him to develop the feature film Now I Know, in which he is currently working. He also worked as executive producer of the documentary film ‘Against the Tide’ and the feature film Black Draft. In 2018, in collaboration with the famous egyptologist Prof. Joann Fletcher, he began the development and scriptwriting of the epic-historical series Pharaoh.
