Merab has been training since a young age at the National Georgian Ensemble with his dance partner Mary. His world is suddenly turned upside down when the charismatic and carefree Irakli arrives and becomes both his strongest rival and desire. In this conservative setting Merab finds himself having to break free and risk it all.
Born in 1979 in Stockholm, Sweden. His parents came to Sweden as immigrants from Georgia in the early 1970s. He often works with co-creator Erika Stark with whom he made the award-winning short The Last Things (2008). His first feature film Certain People was acclaimed in the United States, where it was premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2012. He has also directed several television series for SVT, including Real Humans (2012). His second feature film, The Circle, premiered worldwide at the Berlin Festival in 2015; and his third feature-length, And then We Danced, competed in the 2019 Cannes Film Festival’s Directors’ Fortnight 2019.
