The wines of Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales sponsor the sixth edition of Film&Wine

The section’s programme has just been announced

17/10/2019.- The 64th edition of the Valladolid International Film Festival and the regulatory councils of wine DOs Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Cigales will hold a new edition of Film&Wine scheduled from 23 through 25  October at Valladolid’s Arts Lab (LAVA). As in previous editions of the event, its agenda is full of proposals that combine the quality of cinema, music and wines from DOs  Rueda, Ribera and Cigales. The section’s contents were presented to the media earlier today in an event attended by the Festival’s director  Javier Angulo, and Valladolid’s Local Councillor for Culture and Tourism together with  representatives of the above-mentioned designations of origin.

The Film&Wine  fest section returns to the  64th edition of  Seminci for the sixth consecutive year with new highlights  and three film screenings that will enable viewers to become immersed in the world of wine-growing and wine-making. The section will open with a special gala, presented by the Madrid actress Ana Arias (known for her role as Paquita in the TVE series Cuéntame como pasó), in which a Golden Honorary Spike will be awarded to Edmundo Bayón, the president of the Protos wineries. The gala will also include the screening of New Zealand’s production Hang Time by Casey Zilbert and an an acoustic concert by  Pablo Carbonell.

The second day’s programme of events, featuring the screening of Denmark’s Happy Ending by Hella Joof, will be  presented by actor Javier Godino. Another highlight this day will be a performance by  the Playa Cuberris ensemble. Finally, on Friday, the Italian-Canadian production From the Vine, by Sean Cisterna, will screen  in a session hosted  by the Málaga-born actress Natalia Roig and culminating in a concert by  Al-Blanco.

Following the screenings, attendees will have  the opportunity to enjoy tastings of one hundred brands of the Ribera de Duero, Cigales and Rueda DOs. In addition, local products from Castile and León, presented by food artisans in the region,  will be served by courtesy of the Tierra de Sabor quality stamp.

Also as part of this section, a selection of short films entering the  fourth edition of the programme “Rueda con Rueda” will be shown. This is an competitive  initiative that awards cash prizes worth 10,000€ for shorts featuring Rueda wines (the sponsoring DO)  in at least one scene. The jury entrusted with choosing this year’s winners is formed by  actresses Ruth Gabriel and Clara Alvarado, actor Jon Plazaola, film director Fernando Franco, Seminci’s director Javier Angulo,  general director for  DO Rueda Santiago Mora, and Valladolid’s Councilor for Tourism and Culture  Ana Redondo.

Seminci’s Film&Wine section is sponsored by DOs Ribera del Duero, Cigales and Rueda, in addition to the City Council of Valladolid, Valladolid’s Provincial Council, the regional  Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Farming  through its quality seal Tierra de Sabor, Valladolid’s Arts Lab (LAVA), the regional daily El Norte de Castilla, radio broadcasters Europa FM and Onda Cero (which will make live broadcasts from the Arts Lab) and the non-profit agency Ecovidrio, which joins the Festival’s lineup of sponsors for the first time.

Daily tickets will be on sale for €10,  including tastings of one hundred quality wines and gastronomical products, as well as attendance to the film screening and participation in the day’s activities. A season ticket covering all three days of the event is available for €25.
